"The RNAO Media Award seeks to recognize and celebrate outstanding journalism that contributes to a better understanding of nurses, and the challenges and successes of working in today's health care system. "Dani-Elle balances professionalism and respect in a very rare way that makes the people around her want to be better. I'm not sure how she accomplishes everything that she does, but somehow she makes it happen with a smile on her face every time. There's no task too big or small for Dani-Elle and if she isn't sure how to accomplish it, you can rest assured she will find a way. I think I speak on behalf of many when I say we all strive to be a little more like her in our own work."
- Sophie Desrosiers, Photo Editor, Glue magazine

"One lead by Dani-Elle Dube particularly stood out - how the silence at a Remembrance Day ceremony was heard loud and clear (brilliant)."
- Norris McDonald, Wheels Editor, The Toronto Star and judge for the 2015 Ontario Newspaper Awards in Hamilton

She is a versatile and award-winning young journalist and, just as importantly, she was a pleasure to have in our workplace due to her easygoing manner. She took on the learning curve of her profession with gusto, and I have no doubt she will go far.

- Keith Bonnell, Editor-in-Chief, Ottawa Sun

The power of emotion in a video can't be understated. Dubé captured that in her interiew with the parents of Liam, who died less than three days after being born. Their story fits into the large issue explored in this video, of hospitals and care facilities working to bring emotional closure to the end of a life. In little Liam's case it was things like photo portraits and hand and foot moulds for his parents. It's a sensitive video that brings attention to the broader issue of hospitals caring for more than just the physical well-being of patients.

- Patrick Dell, Senior Video Editor, The Globe and Mail as a judge for the Ontario Newspaper Awards (ONA) in 2016.

The Ottawa Sun's (team) coverage of a triple murder upholds a high standard of journalism, showing what a team of talented reporters can accomplish under pressure. Initial details were sketchy, but with Corey Larocque on scene and Matt Day, Aedan Helmer, Sam Cooley, Tony Spears and Dani-Elle Dubé working the phones, the team quickly developed a story revealing the suspect's name and violent past as well as the identities of two of the three victims and details of the manhunt.

- Allison Jones, Reporter, The Canadian Press as a judge for the Ontario Newspaper Awards (ONA) in 2016.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

ABOUT DANI-ELLE

Dani-Elle arrived in our newsroom fresh out of journalism school, but though the learning curve is steep in such situations, she successfully tackled it with enthusiasm. During her time at the Sun, Dani-Elle displayed steady growth in her writing, her ability to recognize and research a story and was able to continue polishing her strong photo and video skills.
